What we can help with today

Not every “emergency” needs an emergency hospital, but every worried pet owner deserves clarity. During open hours, we can often see and treat urgent issues like:

  • Difficulty breathing, blue gums, open-mouth breathing in cats
  • Seizures, collapse, extreme weakness, unresponsiveness
  • Uncontrolled bleeding or major trauma (hit by car, severe wounds)
  • Distended or painful abdomen, repeated unproductive retching
  • Suspected toxin ingestion (especially medications, rodent bait, grapes/raisins, lilies)
  • Heatstroke concerns
  • Inability to urinate or crying out while trying to urinate
  • Significant pain you cannot manage at home

If you are unsure, call. We will help you decide whether we are the right place to start, or if a 24/7 emergency hospital is the safer option.

When to Seek Emergency Care—During or After Hours

Many urgent health concerns can be seen same-day at The Nations Animal Hospital during our business hours. If your pet is experiencing any of the issues below, don’t wait—call us immediately, and we’ll do our best to get them seen as soon as possible.

If it’s after hours and we’re closed, please head directly to a 24/7 emergency hospital to ensure your pet receives timely care.

  • Difficulty breathing, blue gums, open-mouth breathing in cats
  • Seizures, collapse, extreme weakness, unresponsiveness
  • Uncontrolled bleeding or major trauma (hit by car, severe wounds)

  • Heatstroke concerns

We are not a 24/7 hospital and do not provide overnight monitoring or hospitalization. If it is after hours or your pet needs immediate critical care, please go to a 24/7 emergency hospital.
